Mission of the Alumni Association
Building upon the Institute of Information Management's (IIM) established strengths over the past thirty years in the semiconductor, finance, and information technology sectors, combined with the professional knowledge cultivation and warm mentorship of our faculty, numerous graduates have become the backbone of Taiwan's information industry, academia, and research fields. Driven by the anticipation of many alumni, the Alumni Association was officially launched in 2026. Serving as a bridge between alumni and the Institute, the association aims to foster connections and friendships among graduates, enrich members' career and social lives, and facilitate alumni in contributing their experience and financial support to the development of the Institute and the learning of its students.

The missions and operational activities of the Association include:
  1. Facilitating communication among alumni and members, and promoting exchanges with their alma mater.
  2. Collecting and organizing alumni contact information.
  3. Providing members with information regarding employment, further education, and industry trends.
  4. Coordinating with the Institute's activities to manage member communications and networking events.
  5. Raising funds to assist the Institute in promoting its affairs, providing scholarships, or supporting other institutional needs.
  6. Advancing the exchange of professional information among members.

History of the Alumni Association
In 2024, the Director of the Institute, Professor Lin, Bertrand M.T., proposed that since the Chiao Tung University (NCTU) IIM had been established for 35 years, younger alumni were progressively making their mark in society while early graduates were entering a fulfilling stage of life; hence, there was an increasing need for mutual support and networking among alumni. Concurrently, alumni could provide feedback and support for current students and institutional development through a coordinated association. Consequently, the Alumni Association Preparatory Committee was officially initiated during the Alumni Homecoming Event on Campus Anniversary Day. Demonstrating the characteristically warm and enthusiastic nature of the Institute, several graduates voluntarily joined the preparatory committee.

Subsequently, in addition to offline group discussions, the preparatory committee met face-to-face at the Institute's office every two to three months for brainstorming sessions and progress tracking. In 2025, the committee officially obtained permission from the university to use the names "National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Institute of Information Management Alumni Association" and "NYCU IIM Alumni Association." During the 2025 Alumni Homecoming Event, the official establishment of the Alumni Association was announced, and an initiation gift—a commemorative wooden measuring cup ("Mu Sheng") engraved with the Chiao Tung University IIM Alumni Association membership number—was presented to the joining alumni.

Special thanks are extended to Professor Lo, Chi-Chun for donating NT$100,000 during the initial period when funding was scarce, as well as to preparatory committee members Lin, Zhi-Yin; Fu, Li-Dian; Chen, Shu-Huei; Liao, Hsiu-Yu; and Nie, Zhong-Liang for each advancing NT$20,000 as the preparatory fund, enabling the smooth launch of the association's activities.

As experience-sharing sessions between alumni and current students, alongside networking events, had successfully gotten on track, the Alumni Association Preparatory Committee officially dissolved on the day of the 2026 Alumni Homecoming Event. The committee members transitioned into volunteers for the IIM Alumni Association. Ms. Liao, Hsiu-Yu (Class of 1997) was nominated and successfully elected as the first President of the Alumni Association, receiving votes from over half of the attending alumni. Furthermore, in accordance with the association's bylaws and with the consent of the current Director, Chen, Po-An, Ms. Chen, Shu-Huei was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Alumni Association.

Message from the First President – Liao, Hsiu-Yu (Class of 1997)
After graduating from the NCTU Institute of Information Management (IIM) and entering the real world, I often recalled the words of my professors during crucial life decisions. Their wisdom guided me whenever I felt lost. I also frequently reminisced about the joyful times spent traveling with my IIM classmates. Therefore, when I was in a position to give back to society, I wanted to pass down the professional experience and secrets to a fulfilling life that I had accumulated in the workplace to our junior students. This drove my decision to return to the Institute to teach. When Professor Lin, Bertrand M.T. proposed the idea of establishing an alumni association, I felt duty-bound to step up and serve as the liaison between the alumni and the Institute.

Thanks to the exemplary mentorship of our professors, the atmosphere among faculty and students at IIM has always been incredibly warm and harmonious. As a result, right at the inception of the Alumni Association, seven alumni enthusiastically joined the preparatory team, helping shape our organizational structure and direction from a vague concept into a concrete reality. I am deeply grateful to the following alumni volunteers: Alumnus Lin, Zhi-Yin, for his strong execution in leading us forward; Alumnus Nie, Zhong-Liang, for taking us to visit other departmental alumni associations to understand their operational models and helping us streamline complex bylaws; Alumnus Fu, Li-Dian, who, in his capacity as the CEO of the NCTU Givers Club, provided concepts of alumni mutual assistance and helped materialize our association's bylaws; Alumna Zheng, Ya-Wen, for coordinating dinners between current students and graduates, as well as planning alumni outings; Alumnus Su, Yi-Zhe, for assisting with budgeting and administrative paperwork; and Secretary-General Chen, Shu-Huei, for handling the communications among the Alumni Association, the Institute, and the university administration after every meeting.

Within the first year of its establishment, the Alumni Association organized our first alumni outing, the "Xinpu Autumn Persimmon Tour," in October 2025. We also hosted four "Lunch with Alumni" sessions, inviting graduates to share their career experiences with current students. Furthermore, we arranged the "Senior Master Talks," where retired professors took turns returning to the Institute to give lectures. The inaugural session was successfully kicked off by Professor Chen, An-Bin with his insightful market analysis.

The Alumni Association warmly welcomes all alumni to return to the grand family of the NCTU IIM after venturing out into the world. Whether it is joining our alumni outings, sharing your experiences with current students, or financially supporting the Institute's development, let us work together to pave the way for a brighter and more brilliant future for the Institute and its students.
